Your plane will arrive in Keflavik airport but from there you need to go to Reykjavik with the Air Bus. You will see the bus by the outdoor at the airport and it is on schedule every hour to Reykjavik or just when the bus is full. That won’t be a problem.
If you arrive early in Keflavik airport, you can get to Akureyri the same day, but if you arrive late, you might have to stay one night in Reykjavik, or Akureyri.
From Reykjavik you can either take bus or plane to Akureyri.
By bus (6 hours)

The bus leaves from Reykjavik (station Mjódd) 8.58 in the morning and 17.28 every working day. The bus arrives in Akureyri 15.10 and 23.40. Check for weekends, it can differ.
Always ask or check bus schedule when you arrive, there might be some changes.
You don’t have to order the bus or ferry in advance.
From Akureyri you take another bus (or taxi but it is expensive) to the ferry (ca. 30 min. drive). The bus stops at the crossroad to the ferry but from there is ca. 10-15 min. walk (ask the bus driver if s/he can drive you all the way).
By plane (1 hour)

From Akureyri airport you have to take bus or taxi to Akureyri town and from there, a place called Hof, you can take the bus to the ferry, which finally takes you to Hrísey. The bus stops at the crossroad to the ferry but from there it is about 10-15 mins. walk. From the harbor to the residency is ca. 5-10 min. walk.
Here you can find the bus schedule and make sure you check the route from Akureyri not to Akureyri. . https://straeto.is/en/route-planner/timetables/landsbyggdin/route-78/
The ferry goas every 2 hours. 15 minutes with the ferry to the mainland and ca. 30 minutes drive from there to Akureyri. Here is the ferry schedule. http://www.hrisey.is/en/ferry-schedule

We all live in Reykjavik.
We don’t recommend anything in particular, but many artists have stayed in SÍM Guesthouse | SÍM | Samband Íslenskra Myndlistarmanna | Reykjavik
On the island there is a grocery store (which is also a post office and you can order liquor), restaurant, coffeehouse and a hot water (hot spring) swimming pool.
No scheduled program or formality is for the artist on the island. The main purpose is that you can work on your art and enjoy the stay on the island. By the last weekend of the month you can, if you want to, put up a show/exhibition which will be advertised. The islanders would be very grateful. Some artists have collaborated with the school on the island. There are several places where you can put up an exhibition.
